*Thursday's blog..on friday* <--Oops!

*On Thursday in class, we worked on taking our Cells quiz! The goal is to get at least 70% right. I think most people did on the first try, which is impressive! Others werent so lucky, but thats okay!:) Some people started working with the microscopes!

PS:) If you havent finished with your CellsQuiz, you have until tonight at midnight!

Today in class we answered questions over the cells. One of the questions many people missed was: Whitch structure produces the ribosomes? 88% of the class answered the endoplasmic reticulum but the real answer is the nucleolus. Another question a lot of people missed was: Lacks a membrane bound nucleus and examples are type of. 41% of the class answered Eukaryotes and 47% answered Prokaryotes. The correct answer was Prokaryotes. We also got some hints in class on how to remember things. One of the clues was vesicles sounds like vehicles. Another one was the lysosomes are the "suicide sacs." We also learned that the DNA is located in the nucleae membrane whitch protects it from the cytosol. We learned that the Golgi apparatus is thought of like the "Fed EX." Also we went over how the powerhouse of the cell is the mitochondria!

Daily Blog-- Monday, November 7th

Nov. 7th: Science 9

Today in class we worked on a venn diagram explaining the differences between a plant cell and an animal cell. This is basically what mine looked like: (I've starred some of the important things!)

Plant:

  • Chloroplasts

  • Rigid cell wall

  • Bigger central vacuole than animal cell

  • Smaller lysosome than animal cell (although lysosomes are rare anyway)

  • Peroxisome rare*

  • Has a cell wall*
Animal:

  • Vacuole

  • Centriole*

  • Lysosomes common

  • peroxisomes common*

  • NO cell wall*

Both:

  • EUKARYOTIC***

  • Cytosol

  • Cytoplasm

  • Centrosome

  • Golgi

  • Secretory vesicle

  • Cell membrane

  • Mitochondria

  • Smooth ER

  • Rough ER

  • Ribosomes

  • Cytoskeleton
Make sure you know this for the quiz due by Friday!! (On Quia)
